Wow! July 31 already! The summer is more than half over! I don't know about you, but for me it seems like it is just flying by. The summer is traditionally the time for relaxing, barbecues, and spending time with friends and family. Where I live in New Hampshire, we are lucky to have the ocean and beaches nearby, along with countless lakes and beautiful mountains. I'll admit to spending time having my share of fun. Recently, I spent an afternoon walking around Portsmouth (a gorgeous coastal town in NH) and then just relaxing in the park, watching the boats in the ocean. Last week, my husband and I spent a gorgeous summer day driving through the White Mountains of NH and into Northern Vermont.
But, I am also using these "lazy" days of summer to complete some major business projects. This week I will finish five months of study and training, and once the final learning confirmation (exam) is completed, I will be one of less than 200 (worldwide) Personal Branding Strategists certified to use the REACH methodology. I have also started studying with the Career Coach Institute, taking courses in Career Coaching (using the Authentic Vocation Model), Executive Coaching, and Retirement Coaching. My goal: To continuously improve and enhance the value of the services I deliver to my clients.
So, how have you been spending your summer? Many people have a tendency to want to put their job searches or ongoing career management on hold during the summer. But is that really a good idea? With fewer people in the job market, your competition may be less and your chances of a fast, successful job search even greater in the summer. And, with so many barbecues and other summer get-togethers going on, networking opportunities abound. My advice...go ahead and have fun this summer. But, don't forget your career goals! Whether you are actively in the job market or if you are just testing the market, there is never any better time than the present!
