Benefits of a Professionally Written Resume

HTML clipboard

Happy Halloween! I just love this time of year. Where I live in New England, the foliage is stunning and the air has a crisp feel to it that is energizing to me. But this year, while I'm still enjoying the season, like many of you I've been preoccupied with the economy and what the downturn might mean for all of us.

In his book, "The Executive Rules! A Complete Guide to Landing an Executive Job" Thad Greer, executive recruiter and managing partner of a nationwide search firm, states "If you are legitimately looking to land a job making $50,000+ per year, DO NOT WRITE YOUR OWN RESUME! I cannot stress this enough. A comprehensive, keyword-rich, professionally written resume is mandatory if you want to compete in today's market."

This is sage advice from a professional who knows just how competitive the job market it is and how essential it is that job seekers make the absolute most of their one chance to make a great first impression.

Many of you are rightly concerned about the current economic situation and how it will impact your job security. Already we are hearing reports of large increases in unemployment--translating into a much more competitive job market. We are definitely seeing these concerns through the large increases in the number of people contacting us for information about our professional resume writing services.

If you have thought about having your resume professionally written but have put it off, I'd like to remind you that there is no better time than the present. Whether you are looking for a job now or just want to be prepared "just in case," please don't underestimate how important your resume is in not only getting you the interview but in winning you the job you want and the salary you deserve. In the job market, second place is last place. There's no welcoming handshake for the runners-up. "Almost made it" won't put money in your pocket or secure your future.

You don't hesitate to hire professionals to help you with other aspects of your life. Why should it be any different with your resume--a document that literally has the power to make or break your job search.

Having your resume professionally written is an investment--an investment in yourself and your career--but it is an investment that WILL pay huge returns no matter how you analyze it. Just a few of those returns include:

*** Generating more phone calls and winning more interviews, getting you in front of those with the power to hire you.

*** Helping you land your dream job sooner, shortening your job search and saving you both time and money (remember, every day you are unemployed or underemployed actually COSTS you money, so if your resume gets you back to work even just a few days sooner it will have more than paid for itself).

*** Elevating your earnings potential and positioning you for rapid progression or a challenging career change.

*** Making you stand out from the crowd by maximizing your strengths and promoting your unique value proposition and branding.

*** Raising your confidence in the job market because you know your resume gives you incredible competitive advantage.

The bottom line: in today's competitive job market, a professionally written resume isn't a luxury, it's a necessity and an essential "leg up" on your competition that you can't afford NOT to take advantage of.
